Pen Y Fan Details

The Brecon Beacons National Park was established in 1957, the third of the three Welsh parks after Snowdonia in 1951 and the Pembrokeshire Coast in 1952. It stretches from Llandeilo in the west to Hay-on-Wye in the northeast  covering 519 square miles (1,340 km2) .

The western half gained European and global status in 2005 as Fforest Fawr Geopark. This includes the Black Mountain, the historic extent of Fforest Fawr, and much of the Brecon Beacons and surrounding lowlands. The entire national park achieved the status of being an International Dark Sky Reserve in February 2013.

The Pen Y Fan Walk

Pen y Fan, Brecon Beacons

The walk takes approximately 3 hours to 4 hours depending on the group size and how long we wish to stay at the summit, explore and sample the unique atmosphere! The walk to the top is along a well defined footpath, albeit steep in places. A reasonable degree of fitness is required as it can take approximately 1 hour to reach the summit. However this is achievable for most people if they just take it slowly. The effort is well worth it!
