Sam Hoyland – Institute of Leadership and Management Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship in Management
How did you first learn about the apprenticeship opportunity, and what motivated you to pursue it?
I first learnt about the apprenticeship opportunity via our Practice Manager and made an online application. I was motivated to apply in order to be a better manager for my team and the firm more generally.
Can you describe the skills or knowledge you hoped to gain through this apprenticeship?
You can never underestimate the importance of learning new skills. Through the apprenticeship, I hoped to further develop my leadership style to help with project management, team motivation and delegation.
How has the apprenticeship programme aligned with your career goals and aspirations?
As a relatively new manager, the programme has helped me to better understand the ways that I can serve my team and help my department, as a collective, reach specific goals.
Have there been any unexpected benefits or opportunities that have arisen from your apprenticeship experience?
The apprenticeship has helped me to develop personally as well as allowing me to focus on the development of others in the team.
What advice do you have for others considering or currently pursuing an apprenticeship in your field?
My advice to others thinking of joining a similar scheme would be to not hesitate to do it. The skills that you learn can be put into practice in your day today at work and help you to address situations that could otherwise be daunting.
How have you found working with Call of the Wild?
Working with Call of The Wild has been stress free. All of the team are friendly and Karoline in particular held my hand through a lot of the assignments – many thanks to her.
Is there anything else you would like to say about your apprenticeship experience so far?
This scheme has been really useful for me in expanding my skill set.
