Personal Development Gurus Spill the Beans

Jim RohnDo you have lofty goals and aim high when it comes to career success? Well, sometimes you have to make mistakes along the way in order to learn, but what if you could start your journey with a step up?

There are a number of personal development gurus out there who have revealed their stories in order to help others.

Here is a selection of some of their best advice:

You’re a Reflexion of Your Environment

Continued Professional Development
Whether nature or nurture is the secret to success, the environment around you certainly influences your behaviour to a certain extent. As American entrepreneur, author and motivational speaker, Jim Rohn says:

“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with”

It’s easy to blend in with the crowd, get in a rut or blame your circumstances for your lack of progression, but only you can do something about it. Shake yourself out of it and book a place on a staff motivation training course where you can learn how to motivate yourself and maintain stimulated.

Put Mind Over Matter

Tony RobbinsDo you often set yourself goals and set up with gusto, only to give up and go back to your old ways a few weeks later? Bad habits are hard to shake off if you let your brain and body control your actions, however, if you truly put your mind to it you’ll be able to achieve almost anything.
As Tony Robbins, American businessman, author and philanthropist, says:

“The secret of success is learning how to use pain and pleasure instead of having pain and pleasure use you. If you do that, you’re in control of your life. If you don’t, life controls you.”

Many people have a fear of change and, although it may seem daunting at first, the only way you can achieve your goals is to take a leap of faith and mix things up.

Aim High and Don’t Let Anything Get in the Way

Bill BurrIt’s easy to put things off and say ‘one day’ you’ll do something, but what’s stopping you from doing it now? Procrastinating often means you won’t get around to doing it ever and not doing all you can to achieve your goals will only leave you looking back thinking “what if”.
Don’t wait for life to give you lemons, as they may never arrive without asking for them. As American stand-up comedian, Bill Burr says in his own unique way,

“Realise that sleeping on a futon when you’re 30 is not the worst thing. You know what’s worse, sleeping in a king bed next to a wife you’re not really in love with but for some reason you married, and you got a couple kids, and you got a job you hate. You’ll be laying there fantasising about sleeping on a futon. There’s no risk when you go after a dream. There’s a tremendous amount to risk to playing it safe.”

Never Give Up

Napoleon HillMost people give up when times get hard and before they meet their goals. So, if you’re struggling to stay motivated when working towards your objectives try to remember why you started out in the first place. Setbacks may happen, but if you empower yourself and focus on the end goal you will succeed.
Self-help author Napoleon Hill writes in his book ‘Think and Grow Rich’ that:

“Before success comes in any man’s life, he is sure to meet with much temporary defeat, and, perhaps, some failure. When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and most logical thing to do is to quit. That is exactly what the majority of men do. More than five hundred of the most successful men this country has ever known told the author their greatest success came just one step beyond the point at which defeat had overtaken them.”
